Business Journal: New Report Has Good News for Sac Economy

The Center for Strategic Economic Research says the local economy bottomed out in September, and has been on a slow recovery since.  The region will likely begin creating more jobs as part of the recovery, as opposed to losing them, starting in September. It’s the latest bright spot in what has been a long — and dark — period for the six-county region, which has lost about 103,000 jobs during the Great Recession.

Now, don’t expect a booming economy. It’s going to be a lengthy and slow recovery. But it does appear to be on the mend.  However, there are a couple of issues that could throw a curve to the recovery, including the cash-strapped state and next year’s budget, which could include layoffs or the extension of furloughs of state workers, or even a combination of both.
