The European grapevine moth has been detected in Fresno County. More than 80 square miles have been quarantined. An eradication program that includes chemicals will continue this week. Tens of million dollars worth of crops could be in jeopardy.

Barry Bedwell of the California Grape and Tree Fruit league says officials are hopeful damages can be held to a minimum.

“I think there is a high level of confidence that we've caught it early enough and with proper treatment and maintenance of regulated areas we'll be able to prevent the spread of this pest.”

The moth has been detected in a number of northern California counties, including Napa.

Agriculture officials say they're not sure how the pest wound up the United States.
