The Sacramento County elections department says it still has more than 85,000 ballots left to count, and won’t release its next update until late Friday afternoon.
Depending on the results, all four council races could potentially change – from an outright win to a runoff or the candidates in a runoff. And just 33 votes currently separate the top two finishers in the Democratic primary for the 9th assembly district, Roger Dickinson and Kevin McCarty.
If the races stay close, the final totals might not be known for weeks. Counties have until 28 days after the election to process the remaining ballots and certify the results.
