A San Francisco Superior Court judge is barring nurses at all
five UC med centers in California from holding a one-day strike to
draw attention to stalled contract talks. The judge scheduled a
June 18th hearing on the issue.
Beth Kean with the California Nurses Association says they
have two options:
"One of them is to file an emergency appeal which we are
considering. The second option is to wait for our hearing with him
next week. We have great confidence that the judge is grappling
with the issues."
Kean says low staffing levels are their main concern.
But UC officials say the strike is an attempt by the nurse's
union to leverage public health as a negotiations tactic. They say
patient care will be compromised by a strike.
