Those are some of the ideas City Manager Gus Vina is proposing to deal with a $43 million budget deficit.

Vina presented his plan to the City Council last night.

Councilwoman Sandy Sheedy was critical of the cuts...especially to pools and community centers.

“Every time I look at it I get more and more depressed. You have chosen to cut back virtually every public amenity in the poor areas of the city. It’s going to create juvenile problems. They should have the same amenities anywhere else has.”

The council directed city staff to look at ways of generating more revenue…from things like electronic billboards and cellular phone towers.

Concessions from labor unions are another possibility to help save the city money.

The council is expected to take a final vote on the budget before the end of the month.
