The National Weather Service has issued “Red Flag Warnings” for cities throughout the valley…including Stockton and Modesto.
Captain Jim Doucette is with the Sacramento City Fire Department.
He says all the rains we’ve had lately have spurred the growth of grass in vacant lots and open spaces. But those grasses are drying out and primed to burn…especially with this type of weather.
“It’s going to be pretty nasty the next couple of days. The wild grass that grows in this region is just really taking off. It seems like it happened overnight. It just turned from being green grass to brown. It’s just really dried out fast. Hopefully, we’ll get through these next couple of days without doing too much damage.
Doucette says they’re urging people to be extremely careful if they do any barbecuing or working with power equipment today or tomorrow.
The gusty winds are expected to die down by Sunday.
