Crews suspended operations over the weekend to allow easy traffic flow through the heavily-traveled area.
The spill happened after a tanker truck overturned on the snowy interstate on May 26th…spilling 3,000 gallons of diesel fuel. California Department of Fish and Game officials say most of it drained into the center divide...but some may have reached Donner Lake.
Department spokeswoman Alexia Retallack says they hope to finish the cleanup by the end of the week.
“We have arrangements with CalTrans to be able to continue work through Thursday if necessary but we are hoping to be done sooner than that. It’s hard to tell. We have to continue to test the soil and make sure we’ve got all the diesel and that’s what’s keeping us there.”
She says so far, tests of Donner Lake’s water have NOT detected diesel.
CalTrans will close the fast lane of Eastbound 80 from 7 AM to 4 PM to allow for the cleanup work.
