Wednesday, June 16, 2010
About 415,000 residents donated their time in 2009, with each volunteering about 40 hours. That’s the highest rate in the region since 2005, which was the height of the booming economy. Then, about 423,000 people donated their time, with an average of 57 hours for the year. About one of every four Sacramento-area residents volunteered last year. That’s slightly lower than the record 30 percent in 2005.
While Sacramento’s volunteer efforts were much better than recent years and the statewide average, the figures were lower compared to other cities, including top-ranked Minneapolis, Portland, Ore.; Salt Lake City, Seattle and Oklahoma City – each with at least one of every three residents volunteering.
