Jessica Hess with the Sacramento Utilities Department says thanks to some new grant money, the city will expand water conservation rebates starting July 1st.

“The new rebate program is offering the $100 rebate for the Tier 3 washing machine whereas before it was a $50 rebate.”

Tier Three’s use about 15-gallons of water per load of laundry…compared to 40-gallons used by a standard machine. High-efficiency toilets will also now be eligible for rebates of up to $100.

“Twenty-percent of a resident’s indoor water use is from the toilet. So switching to a high-efficiency toilet can actually provide some significant savings.”

That’s because the days of paying a flat water rate will end. All city water users will be on meters by the year 2020.
