Placer County boasts some major employers with good-paying positions, including Hewlett-Packard Co. and NEC.  But the county lost seven percent of its jobs between December 2008 and December 2009, easily the largest percentage in the region and one of the biggest declines in the state.  The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Yolo County lost six percent of its jobs over the same period, while Sacramento County – where many employees work for the state — had a more modest four percent decline.
But Placer County residents did enjoy bigger paychecks than their neighbors in Sacramento and Yolo, with the average employee receiving a three percent increase to $920 per week in 2009.
