Another Round of Deputy Layoffs for Sac County Sheriff

The nightmarish budget approved by the Board of Supervisors last month includes major cuts to almost every county department – and the sheriff is no exception. Around 40 officers and deputies will lose their jobs next month after more than 100 deputy layoffs last year. Some residents in the unincorporated parts of the county, which sheriff’s deputies patrol, are fed up.
Harrington: “I think it’s absolutely horrible.”
Trish Harrington is the president of the Carmichael Chamber of Commerce. She says the county has an obligation to protect its citizens. She says she knows the county has had to cut a lot of other programs too …
Harrington: “But this is one thing that I personally benefit from, since I’m not a welfare recipient, nor am I on any kind of aid. It’s just something that I feel very strongly about, and it makes me very sad that they’re doing this.”
If not for her husband’s job, Harrington says, she’d probably move somewhere else.
