Fair organizers say the first day’s attendance was strong, and food venders said the chocolate covered bacon and fresh fruit were going fast. This year the fair started a month earlier than usual, and that was good news for Will Nieves and his three children.
“It worked out better for us this year because it timed up with our vacation better and the kids being off of school.”

Judy and Hunter Gilliam arrived at nine in the morning so they could be among the first through the gates. Hunter says he’s impressed with some of the displays at the fair, especially …
“The extreme zone, where they have dirt bikes and do back flips and all that.”

Others, like Angela Lobenberg were more excited about a surprise appearance by California’s Governor.
“Arnold Schwarzenegger, we chased him down.”

But not everyone was happy to see the Governor. Some fair-goers booed and yelled complaints about his plan to pay state workers the Federal minimum wage. In Sacramento, I’m Ida Lieszkovszky.
