California Unemployment Rate Dips Slightly

California’s jobless rate for June is 12 point 3 percent. This is the third straight month its gone down. Each time it’s dropped off a tiny bit; by one-tenth of one percent.

The state added 1300 jobs in June, but it also shed nearly 28-thousand more. The Employment Development Department says most of those cuts were temporary Census positions. More Census jobs are set to end next month.

State economists say the fairly steady unemployment number means that although the recession may have leveled off, recovery hasn’t really begun yet in California.

U.S. unemployment dropped from 9 point 7 percent down to 9 and a half percent in June. At the state capitol, I’m Ida Lieszkovszky.
