Federal Judge Vaughn Walker says banning gay marriage is unconstitutional.  But same-sex marriage opponents have asked for a stay of execution while they appeal. So for now, Walker’s ruling is on hold. Mario Guerrero is with “Equality California,” a gay rights group. He says he’s celebrating cautiously.
“Our community will celebrate throughout the state and we’ll continue to work but definitely we know that this is not the end.”
Randy Thomasson is with SaveCalifornia.com, a group that opposes gay marriage. He says the ruling is a terrible blow to voters’ rights –and the institution of marriage:
“You mark my words; if marriage can mean anything, then marriage will ultimately mean nothing.
Supporters of the ban are appealing. The judge is expected to rule on the stay of execution in a few days.
