Best Best & Krieger has lured 18 lawyers from McDonough Holland & Allen — one of the region’s best-known, largest and oldest firms. McDonough Holland had almost 100 attorneys in mid-March, but has lost dozens in recent months, including its lucrative construction and real estate, and health care practices.
Earlier this week, Hanson Bridgett announced hiring 11 lawyers from McDonough, continuing the trend of more out-of-area law firms with local offices grabbing McDonough lawyers. The McDonough firm — which leases about 65,000 square feet on Capitol Mall — is expected to close by early September, making it the largest-ever firm in the city to shut down. Only a handful of McDonough attorneys have not been hired by other firms with three weeks remaining.
