Larry Kelley with developer McClellan Business Park says it’s the largest property transfer at the former base to date.
Kelley: “This is a monumental accomplishment in a lot of ways and it couldn’t have been done without the support from everybody.”

By everybody, he means the Air Force and federal, state and local politicians. So why’s this so important? Well, before Kelley’s company can develop the site, the soil and groundwater need to be decontaminated. And by doing the cleanup privately instead of publicly, Kelley says …
Kelley: “We move at a different pace and we’re able to prioritize the actual physical cleanup in areas that we need the property for development or for use.”
The Air Force base closed in 2001. Now, more than 15,000 people live or work there. The county says the property will provide 35,000 jobs once it’s all developed.
