Governor Says Budget is "Very Close"

The governor used a press conference at the capitol to reiterate that he will not sign a budget without pension reform. Democrats have been sticking to their talking points - fewer cuts. And this week both houses voted on two budget proposals and passed neither. Still the governor says progress has been made.

You should know that a lot of work was done by legislative leaders, by Democrats and Republicans. And so we're very close I think it just takes that will to go and get over that hump because they are answering to outside forces.

Schwarzenegger had supported bills the ban plastic bags and increase renewable energy use. Both died this week in the legislature. But the governor says he'll try to get those passed before he leaves office.
