The forums will address the need to keep Delta businesses
afloat if the state decides to add a new water diversion
system.
"The folks of the Delta feel very ignored and disregarded,
that they're not a part of the equation."
Contra Costa County Supervisor Mary Piepho is a member of the
state Delta Protection Commission…which is holding the meetings.
She says people who live and work in the Delta are worried that
adding canals or tunnels will hurt marinas, restaurants, hotels and
other businesses.
Piepho says the commission's role is to make sure that doesn't
happen.
"Policy makers, when they're looking at the Delta and
considering what to do with water transfers to feed a very thirsty
state, that we don't devastate the local economy."
The first community forum is tonight in Courtland. Other
meetings will be held throughout September in Discovery Bay, Rio
Vista, North Stockton and Antioch.
