It's been just over a month since the financially-struggling Mexicana Airlines ceased operations at Sacramento International Airport.

"A lot of people were very disappointed because they had already planned to see their families this Christmas and it was challenging for us."

Cheryl Marcell with the airport says, when Mexicana left, airport staff approached Alaska Airlines and were able to demonstrate a strong demand for service to and from Mexico.

"It's pretty complex in terms of the presentation that we made to them. But they crunched the numbers themselves. And luckily for us they agreed and we're just excited about it."

Alaska Airlines will begin service to and from Guadalajara, Mexico on December 16th…with departures on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays…and arrivals on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.
