State law currently allows felons to work as home-care aids.

"People with very serious and violent felonies are statutorily eligible to be providers."

Laura West is a Deputy District Attorney in Sacramento County. She heads a task force that oversees local In-Home Supportive Services or IHSS programs. She told County Supervisors this week the law is frustrating for prosecutors…but some patients are fine with it.

"Consumers would like the ability to select who they may want as their care provider and that may include a family member that has a serious record and they may be comfortable with that."

More than 200 felons are scheduled to resume or begin employment in IHSS programs throughout the state, according to documents obtained by Los Angeles Times.
