The bill establishes a uniform system that ensures credit for core classes transfers from community college to a California State University. Mike Uhlenkamp is a spokesman for C-S-U. He says students who transfer now, end up wasting class credits.
"The junior college transfer student accrues extra units in trying to transfer to a Cal State University and what this is going to do is give them a defined path to eliminate that."
Uhlenkamp says Cal State Universities expect to take on about
50,000 more transfer students a year because of this program. Next
year's fall students will be the first to take advantage of this
measure. He says streamlining the transfer process will also help
students graduate more quickly, thereby making room for even more
students.
