On Tuesday night, the city council approved a series of land use and zoning actions. Officials hope the moves will lead to a mixed-use project on a 40-acre site where abandoned auto dealers currently sit.
Larry Carr is with the Florin Road Partnership, the corridor's business improvement district.
Carr: "It's gonna be a transformation of the corridor from totally commercial to something that would probably be mixed use and more neighborhood convenience type of shopping, as opposed to destination retail type shopping."
That "transformation" is still a few years away. Carr says the goal is to time the project to coincide with the economic recovery - because there are so few developers capable of taking on a project that complex.
