This Thursday will mark Iceland's 70th anniversary.
"And so we're trying to have…we're going to have an anniversary celebration and we want to skate."
Rob Kerth is the grandson of rink founder William Kerth Senior. If there's a bit of uncertainty in his voice it's because volunteers are still scrambling to get the rink ready.
"First we had to clean the old gal up. I mean the roof when it collapsed left a pile of ashes on the ground two-feet thick over the whole place. And then we've had to level up the refrigeration equipment and rebuild the rail around the rink."
There's still no roof over the rink so Kerth says it'll be like outdoor skating. Now he says it's up to Mother Nature…they can't make ice for an outdoor rink if temperatures get above 70-degrees.
