Galleria Progress Continues - Bit by Bit

I'm standing in the wing of the Roseville Galleria that sustained the most damage in last month's fire.  And most stores are papered or plasticked over, like Loft and Guess and Victoria's Secret and Abercrombie.  The Talbots store that's here won't be able to reopen, officials say, until next month - not in time for Black Friday.  But one store that did just reopen this Veterans Day is Williams-Sonoma, and it's got a pretty good crowd just as lunchtime approaches - including customer Rita Newdeck from Stockton.

Newdeck: "We weren't sure what was going to be open in the mall, but we thought that we wanted to support the merchants that are open.  And the excitement is great."

Now, Williams-Sonoma's corporate media policy won't let any employee there talk with me, but I did overhear the general manager telling someone else that it has been an around-the-clock effort, 24 hours a day, for several weeks - just to get the store open on this Veterans Day.
