Governor-elect Brown has invited lawmakers, statewide elected officials and local government leaders.  Brown's staffers say the forum is intended to define the budget problem - not to pose solutions.  Governor Schwarzenegger has proposed his own solutions to part of the state's budget deficit, and called a special legislative session. Schwarzenegger spokesman Aaron McLear says the Governor's encouraged by Brown's forum:

"Both Governor-elect Brown and Governor Schwarzenegger are really pushing the issue this month and say we can't wait.  We need to act immediately and I thin it's a positive thing that both of them are doing that."

Brown has also announced his first appointments.  Schwarzenegger Director of Finance Ana Matosantos will stay on, and he's tapped Diana Dooley of the California Children's Hospital Association as Secretary of Health and Human Services.  Both positions will be critical in budget negotiations.
