Nick is one of thousands of recent college grads around the country trying to enter one of the worst job markets in decades. When we first spoke with Nick back in January, he was eager to graduate from Sacramento State with a degree in journalism so that he could follow his dream of becoming a sportswriter.

"I'm pretty excited that it's my final semester since I've been in college for a while and I think I'm ready to just go out and work. I know there might be a chance that I probably won't get the job I want right away obviously, but at the same time I'm still kind of optimistic."

We also talked with Nick in the springtime right before graduation. In addition to taking a full load of classes at Sacramento State, Nick was doing freelance reporting for local news websites and interning with the Sacramento River Cats' media relations department.

"This season, they're going to have me to more multi-media work, shooting and editing video, something nice for my portfolio. I'm also just trying to make sure that all my requirements are met so I won't have any surprises right before I walk the stage."

He's talking about the stage college graduates take when they accept their diplomas. And as it turns out…there was a surprise. When we spoke with Nick a few weeks ago, he explained that he still needed to complete a fewer lower-division classes…but he was able to graduate with his classmates.
