Looming Storm Spurs Reno Flood Fears

The National Weather Service says a series of storms beginning Friday will bring a prolonged wet period to the Reno area through the middle of next week.

"We're going to keep getting these systems moving in, riding along a strong jet."

Meteorologist Dawn Fishler says flooding potential will vary depending on snow levels in the mountains.

"If we're dealing with the higher snow levels then we're going to be more concerned with the flooding possibilities. But if we're dealing with lower snow levels we're really concerned with heavy snowfall."

Fishler says soils are already saturated because of an especially wet October and significant snowpack already exists above 7,500 feet.

She says the greatest concern is in uncontrolled rivers and streams in the Sierra. That does not include the Truckee River.
