Alphonso Thompson is home for the holidays. The Arizona State college student has just arrived at Sacramento International Airport from Phoenix…and says he's a little on edge.

"When I came here I went through that full body scan and I'd never done that before and it was weird."

Airport spokeswoman Gina Swankie says easing those "weird" feelings for passengers like Thompson is the number one reason the airport hires musicians to play at baggage claim…

"Number two - it's a thank you to our passengers for their loyalty throughout the year. Of course, this is the time of the year when most of our passengers travel, so it's a great opportunity to touch the majority of them."

One of the musicians on this year's roster is pianist Ken Kemmerling.

"As soon as the music starts, with the right touch, people just relax instantly, and you hear the conversation go up and become more animated."

The live music will play on through Friday.
