Public Hearing Set for Arena Proposals

The team that tried - and failed - last year to pull off a complex land swap involving Cal Expo, the Railyards and the current Arco Arena is back with an updated proposal.  So is a group that likes the Westfield Downtown Plaza as a potential site and a Natomas Chamber of Commerce proposal to keep the arena in its current neighborhood.  Then, there's a fourth group led by developer David Taylor, who left the land swap team and formed his own.

Task Force co-chair Chris Lehane compares the situation to an NBA team grabbing four top draft picks.

Lehane: "I think that competition from four teams with four track records of success is really gonna translate to the benefit of Sacramento."

Out of all the teams, two sources familiar with the situation say David Taylor's proposal is probably the best-positioned to succeed.  They say he's lined up a strong team of partners. And he's known and liked at City Hall - which, by the way, he built.
