Yesterday morning, LaCara was shot to death in his office. The suspect is school custodian John Lubbers. He was arrested at his home a few hours after the shooting.

No children were hurt and Placerville Police Chief George Nielsen praised the staff at Schnell Elementary. 

"The school staff did an amazing job and they followed all the procedures in protecting the children. And we very much want to point that out that the children were safe in this particular incident. The principal was the target unfortunately."

Schnell Elementary will be closed today...as will other schools in the Placerville Union School District. Officials with the district say the schools are scheduled to reopen tomorrow and that grief counselors will be available to students.
