0214 Melinda 2Finding work is a priority for the dozen or so students in the jobs class at Sacramento County's Department of Human Assistance.

These students get help from CALWORKS, a state program that provides monthly cash assistance as they look for work.

Governor Jerry Brown's budget proposal would cut the grants from five years to four, and reduce the grant amount by 13 percent.

Melinda Moore is in the class.  She's a single mother with two teenagers living at home.

As part of our series collaboration with the Sacramento Bee "Brown's Countdown," Moore shares her story with Capital Public Radio's Marianne Russ.
