Jerry Woutat quit his
job to become his mother Carol's full-time caregiver, rather than
place her in a facility.
JERRY WOUTAT AND CAROL GRUSKY GETTING PREPARED TO LEAVE THE HOUSE: (Jerry) "You want to button that? Will that be ok? (Carol) Yeah. Laughing. (Jerry) Ok, you ready to go?"
Woutat gets his mom ready for the daily
trip to the adult day health care center in Carmichael. She
spends four hours a day there, giving Woutat a chance to get
groceries or go to the doctor.
Under Governor Jerry Brown's budget proposal, funding
for adult day health
care would be eliminated.
As part of our ongoing collaboration with the Sacramento Bee, Brown's Countdown, Woutat shares his story with Capital Public Radio's Marianne Russ.
