National weather forecaster Brooke Bingaman says nearly three feet of snow will fall on the Sierra Nevada summit this weekend.
"Even though there are periods where it will wind down a bit, it will be persistent," Bingaman said.
But depending on your plans, that may be a good thing. Brandon Dalzell is with Kirkwood Ski Resort.
"We're expecting unbelievable conditions if you like skiing deep powder," Dalzell said. "So it's pretty exciting."
Dalzell says Kirkwood doesn't close due to weather. Other Tahoe ski resorts say they'll stay open this holiday weekend too. The downside is getting there.
"You need to leave lots of time. You need to pack lots of patience," Rochelle Jenkins, of Caltrans, said. "That should be the very first thing you pack in your car is your patience."
Jenkins says be prepared for chain controls and delays until Tuesday.
