That's where a groundbreaking ceremony will be held for the expansion of a power plant owned by GWF Energy.

Riley Jones with the company says they're currently able to generate enough electricity to power 125,000 homes when state energy managers say so.

"Right now it's a peaker plant being run only when the demand for electricity exceeds the supply and Cal-ISO deems it necessary to run that plant."

Jones says, once the expansion is complete in 18-months, the company will be able to supply enough electricity to power 325,000 homes.

He also says the bigger facility will meet air quality standards set by the San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District.

"It also, through dry-cooling as opposed to wet-cooling, saves several thousand acre feet of water for local agricultural use."

Electricity from the plant will be sold to Pacific Gas and Electric as part of a 10-year agreement. Riley says the expansion project will create 400 local jobs.
