Put away those toothbrushes; stuff those sleeping bags back
into their covers. There won't be any late-night budget
session Thursday.
March 10th marks Governor Brown's self-imposed deadline to
reach a budget deal. But late Wednesday afternoon, the
governor asked legislative leaders to hold off for a bit - though
how long is unclear. He wants to continue what he calls
"positive and productive" talks with lawmakers "on both sides of
the aisle." The governor has been meeting with five
Republican Senators to discuss pension and regulatory reforms and a
spending cap.
The office of Senate Democratic Leader Darrell Steinberg says
he'll honor the governor's request for a delay.
