The Vacaville City Council has unanimously adopted an ordinance prohibiting medical marijuana dispensaries from operating within city limits.
Vacaville Police Chief Richard Word told council members that medical marijuana users won't have a hard time finding dispensaries nearby.
"There's 22 dispensaries shown in Sacramento, 19 in San Francisco, 6 in Oakland, 6 in Vallejo, and some of these services deliver. So there's not a shortage of marijuana out there."
Word advised the council to say "no" to pot dispensaries because he says they attract crime such as robbery and burglary.
Supporters of pot dispensaries say the decision is bad news for people who suffer with debilitating medical conditions and rely on medical marijuana.
