While the Maloof family is in New York explaining to other NBA team owners why it would be smart to permit the Kings to move to Anaheim, Mayor Kevin Johnson will also be there explaining why it would be just as smart to keep the team in Sacramento.
KEVIN JOHNSON: "I don't think the grass is any greener in Anaheim, despite what people are saying."
But Mayor Johnson will also be trying to convince the NBA that Sacramento could support a team if the Kings leave. So he's taking a member of the David Taylor Icon Group, which is working on a feasibility study for a new sports and entertainment complex.
KEVIN JOHNSON: "I want the NBA to know that even though we've had failed attempts in the past. I think it's a new era in Sacramento and whether the Kings are there or not. We're going to go ahead and build a new facility."
