AAA Says Slow Down For Earth Day

The auto club has come out with some green tips. One is - accelerate gently instead of making quick starts.

"It's called a jackrabbit start when you do that. The engine uses a lot more fuel. Also, when you're coming up to a light just let yourself coast in, don't race up to it and then have to slam on the breaks."

AAA's Matt Skryja says another tip is - slow down.

He says the fuel efficiency of most vehicles decreases rapidly at speeds above 60-miles-per-hour….and that can add up.

"Each 5 mph driven over 60 mph, that's like dropping another 24 cents per gallon for gas, according to the U.S. Department of Energy."  

Skryja says another way to drive greener is to avoid heavy traffic jams if you can.
