The mailers come from a company called Property Tax Assessor Records Corporation.
El Dorado County Assessor Karl Weiland says - while the mailers aren't illegal, they are misleading.
"They want to charge you $25 for something you can get for free. Property owners, if they believe that they're being over assessed, they can certainly call the assessor's office and ask for a review of their assessment. We do that without charge."
Weiland points out - this isn't the first time property owners in El Dorado County have received deceptive mailers.
In 2007, a company called Property Tax Reassessment sent out official looking notices that solicited a payment of $189.
Company owners were subsequently charged with mail fraud and deceptive business practices.
