The California Teachers Association has assembled a coalition of education groups for what it's calling "State of Emergency Week." Plans include daily sit-ins at the Capitol. The group wants lawmakers to pass Governor Jerry Brown's proposed tax extensions rather than put the issue to voters. Concurrently, another group spear-headed by activist Cindy Sheehan, will be holding sit-ins as well:
"Governor Brown is attacking the vulnerable, you know, people who don't have that much political power, so we have to be their voices here."
Sheehan - whose son died in the Iraq War - says she's pushing for a tax on the wealthy and wants to meet with Governor Brown. She'll also attempt to camp out on the grounds:
"I'm willing to be arrested, yes, if that's what it's going to take."
