Industries with the biggest job gains include healthcare, agriculture and education. Meanwhile, construction is still feeling the brunt of the housing crisis.

Justin Wehner with the state Employment Development Department says construction hiring was flat last month.

"Over the last 21 years from March to April we usually gain 900 jobs. So that neutral number is below the historical average. When we look at construction on a year-over basis, it was actually our second largest industry with job losses."

The construction industry has lost 3,300 jobs in the past year.

The sector with the highest number of job losses is government - down by 6,100 jobs since April of last year.
