4.2 Million Californians Expected To Travel Memorial Day Weekend

AAA expects more than four million Californians to travel 50 miles or more this weekend.  Cynthia Harris of AAA Northern California says overall, that's only a marginal increase over last year.

"It's a very very slight increase but it's actually good news because of the very high gas prices and the volatility in the gas prices we've experienced since the beginning of the year."

Harris says Californians have adapted to high gas prices and rising air fares over the past few years.
"Basically people are changing the way they travel but they're still travelling.  For instance, travelling closer to home, doing a two day trip instead of a three day trip, staying with family and friends maybe instead of staying a night or two in a hotel room."
These money saving techniques can still only save so much.  AAA predicts the average west coast family of four will spend just under a thousand dollars on a weekend road trip.
