Warren Truitt from the Save The American River Association is helping to organize the event, and he says the Parkway is worth celebrating.
Warren Truitt: "The American River Parkway has come from nothing, just private lands, to 4600 acres running from Hazel Avenue to the confluence of the American and Sacramento River. People cycle there, run ,horseback, it's become the heart of the community."
Truitt says while the event is a celebration, it's also a
rally against drastic budget cuts. These days only eight rangers
patrol the riverbanks. That's down from twenty. He says
bikers and other visitors are expressing concern over safety, in
part because of a growing number of homeless encampments.
