Rates of health risks and problems such as diabetes were similar between rural areas and cities.
But Steven Wallace of the UCLA Center for Health Policy Research says rural areas require different solutions.
WALLACE: Those same problems when they exist in rural environments do require a different approach because of the low density and difficulty in transportation and infrastructure itself.
