The land is in a part of Solano County called Green Valley.
"If you're driving down I-80 and you see Jelly Belly and the truck-scales, and you look out to the west, it's the hills between Solano and Napa County."
Nicole Byrd heads the Solano Land Trust. The group has already paid $3.5 million to buy 330 acres of the tract.
Byrd says the trust still needs to raise $10.5 million to buy the rest of the land.
"Unless we buy the whole property, there will still be development."
The land's owner, White Wing Highlands Associates, agreed to sell to the trust in exchange for settling a lawsuit that would have blocked development.
But time is running out. The trust has until February to come up with the balance. Otherwise, the land reverts back to the developer.
