The last day for 66 crime scene investigators and administrative staff and 42 police officers is Friday. Mayor Johnson says if the unions agree to give up some of what the city pays for pensions, some layoffs could be avoided.
JOHNSON: "Are desperately reaching out to SPOA and membership and asking them to have a discussion and a dialogue"
Brent Meyer of the Sacramento Police Officers Association told Capitol Public Radio's Insight Program, the union is not sure the city couldn't cut elsewhere before cutting police again.
MEYER: "I'm not saying the door is closed on any concessions. I'm just saying the city needs to become more reasonable and a little bit more transparent."
