Governor Jerry Brown Begins Signing Pieces of Budget

(Sacramento, CA)
Wednesday, June 29, 2011
The bills Brown has signed were passed by lawmakers June 15th.  He vetoed the main budget bills they passed that day - but not the ones that iron out the details - often called "trailer bills." Among those he's now signed are two controversial measures that deal with the state's redevelopment agencies.  One guts them and the other creates a new redevelopment program that requires agencies to share money with the state.  Brown also signed a bill that requires more online retailers to collect California sales tax from internet purchases.  Brown has yet to act on the budget bills passed by lawmakers this week.  He may be considering what to eliminate from them with his line item veto authority.  He's expected to sign those by midnight Thursday, the end of the fiscal year.
