"Zero Tolerance" Again for Illegal Fireworks

Here's what you can't use, says CalFire's chief of law enforcement, John Ellis:

Ellis: "Sky rockets, bottle rockets, roman candles, aerial shells, fire crackers and other miscellaneous types that explode.  They go up into the air or they move about on the ground in an uncontrollable fashion."

And here are the ones you can use - they're called "safe and sane" fireworks and have the state fire marshal's seal of approval.

Ellis: "Fountains and cones, snakes that expand and move around - basically, they're a type of firework that won't go shooting uncontrollably into the grass, or lob into somebody else's property or into a roof of a house."

And Ellis says make sure you pick the right ones.  The wrong ones could get you a year in jail or a fine of up to $50,000.  And, he says, make sure you only buy and use them in cities and counties where they're legal.  In some parts of California, they aren't.
