Student trustee Steven Dixon blamed state lawmakers for not giving voters a chance to raise revenues and avoid the latest tuition increase.

Dixon: "If you don't want us to educate those students, then score it in your budget, mark it in the books and face the voters yourselves.  Quit sending us to do your dirty work!"

Trustees also approved a salary for San Diego State's new president that's more than $100,000 dollars higher than his predecessor's was.  Critics, including Governor Brown, blasted the move at a time of budget cuts and tuition hikes.  Board Chair Herbert Carter was among those who voted yes.

Carter: "If we fired every administrator in this system, it wouldn't mere a mere pittance of enough money to solve the problem that we're faced with."

Students will pay 12 percent more for tuition this fall, on top of a previously-approved 10 percent hike.
