U.S. District Judge John Mendez sentenced Piggee to 15-years in prison.

That's five-years longer than the lead prosecutor in the case - Assistant U.S. Attorney Steven Lapham - says he pushed for in a plea agreement with Piggee's lawyer.

"This act didn't seem to have the same types of considerations I see in other arson cases - usually a profit motive or revenge or a hate crime.

Piggee's attorney Johnny Griffin said his client had substantial mental health issues. Griffin says Piggee took the sentencing hard.

"He was very teary eyed but he's accepting it. And he has vowed that once he is out of custody to remain with whatever treatment program and get his life back together."

In sentencing Piggee, Judge Mendez said: "It was perhaps a cry for help, but it was the wrong cry for help."

The October 21st blaze caused more than $55 million in damage and destroyed a quarter of the shopping mall.
